This site has been established for the benefit of all those individuals interested in the challenges of implementing smart growth principles in Fremont County, Idaho. A small 3 by 24 mile strip of our county actually lies inside Yellowstone National Park's southwest corner. Because of Fremont County's proximity to the Park, it's geography and abundant wildlife, it is considered by many to be the crown jewel county of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
Smart Growth Coalition (SGC), a non-profit, 501(c)3, grass roots organization is dedicated to the preservation of the county's natural resources and western life style for the enjoyment of future generations. The SGC Vision of what we want Fremont County to look like 20 years from now and our Mission is as follows:
Vision
Fremont County is widely known for its prosperous working farms and ranches, scenic vistas, diverse wildlife, year-around recreational activities, and thriving, compact communities brought about by the triumph of smart growth development.
Mission
As more people call Fremont County home, Smart Growth Coalition supports policies that keep our communities vibrant and our landscapes healthy for present and future generations. The goal of this blog site is to provide information concerning specific issues affecting land use in Fremont County. Hopefully, others who also share our vision will comment and support in our struggle to implement smart growth land practices that will benefit us all.
